6 Nov 2025

Alan Nichols concluded his term as Chair of the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners on Tuesday 28th October 2025.

Alan joined the Board of Commissioners in 2013 and took on the role of Chair in 2019. His professional background as an economist, with senior planning and finance positions in the Department of Transport and British Rail, provided valuable expertise to the Commission’s oversight and strategic planning. A keen boat owner and RYA Race Officer, his personal connection to the maritime environment further enriched his contribution to the harbour’s management.

Alan says: “It has been my absolute privilege to serve as Chair of the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners. I’m so proud of the work the Commissioners and team have, and, continue to achieve, including encouraging the next generation into the maritime industry by providing opportunities as part of the Harbour’s apprenticeship programme and pursuing commercial endeavours to future-proof the Trust Port for many, many years to come.”

Apprentice Josh Wright and Alan officially open the 2025 Plymouth Yacht Haven BoatFest

Alan’s time as Chair was dedicated to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the Cattewater Harbour and supporting the economic growth of Plymouth and the South West region.
