Landing Points and Slipways

Barbican Dinghy Pontoon

A short stay dinghy pontoon is available for public use free of charge on the Barbican, at Commercial Wharf, installed by the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners in partnership with Plymouth City Council.

The pontoon is to be used at your own risk, as follows:

  • Short Stay Only – 4hrs maximum.
  • Up to 4m LOA.
  • Vessels left at your own risk.
  • No swimming from the Pontoon.
  • Vessels in breach of the above or found misusing the pontoon will be removed, and a £50.00 recovery charge applied.

Public Slipways

There are a a variety of public slipways in the Cattewater, available to use free of charge. Slipways in the Cattewater can be found at:

  • Oreston.
  • Mount Batten.
  • Elphinstone.
  • Commercial Wharf.

The slipways in the Cattewater are managed by Plymouth City Council. For information on these slipways and public landing places visit the Plymouth City Council website. 

There are also slipways located elsewhere in Plymouth, such as North of Laira Bridge, and Richmond Walk although you should check for permission before launching from these sites. 

When launching or landing from these slipways, please bear in mind other users. When afloat you should adhere to all local legislation, bylaws and codes of conduct for the waterway you are operating in.

Any vessel using the Cattewater is liable to pay harbour dues. Find out more about harbour dues here.
