The Nao Victoria, a full-scale replica of the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the globe, is coming to Plymouth next week.
This iconic vessel will be moored at the Barbican Landing Stage from Wednesday 28th May to Sunday 1st June, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step aboard and experience maritime history firsthand.
The Nao Victoria is a replica of the ship which first sailed around the world, enduring the greatest maritime feat of all times. The original Nao Victoria, commanded by Juan Sebastian Elcano, left Seville in 1519 and returned to the same city in 1522, after circumnavigating the globe for the first time in history.
The replica was built for the EXPO, the World’s Fair that was held in 1992 in Seville, capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the original nao’s port of origin. The Nao Victoria is the only replica of the original ship that managed to circumnavigate the world. Measuring 26 meters in length with four decks and 290 square meters of sail, the ship serves as a floating museum, educating the public about the Age of Exploration and the challenges of early sea voyages.

During its stay the Nao Victoria will be open to the public, with crew members on hand to provide insights into the ship’s history and the life of sailors during the 16th century.
Visitors can explore the ship’s decks, learn about navigation techniques of the era, and gain a deeper appreciation for the courage and determination of early explorers.
Tickets for onboard visits can be purchased in advance through the Fundación Nao Victoria’s official website or at the entrance to the Barbican Landing Stage during the ship’s stay.
