To deliver our Trust port duties the Harbour team operates and maintains a range of assets for the benefit of stakeholders including:
- Offices x 3: Harbour Office, Poseidon House, and Turnquay House (office, yard and slipway new from 2025)
- Yards x 1: Breakwater Hillyard
- Vessels x 8: Pilot boats x 2, Ribs x 2, Workboat x 1, Tug x 1, Plough Dredger x 1 and Harbour Patrol Fisher x 1
- Road vehicles x 2
- Barbican Landing Stage and Mayflower Pontoon
- Commercial Wharf: new lease from 2025



Our team involves permanent staff as well as service providers, and Cattewater Harbour current headcount is:
- 10 Commissioners including KHM and CHC Harbour Master
- 18 full time staff, 16 part time crew
Plymouth is the largest and busiest commercial port in the UK’s South West, over 2.2 million tonnes of cargo passes through annually, mainly petroleum also clay, building material and animal feed.
The Harbour team provides a range of services:
- Statutory duties – including pilotage (> 1000 moves a year), navigation aids and water access
- Hospitality – water tours e.g. PS Waverley, and waterside activities e.g. cruise guest welcome events
- Leisure – boats and public amenity including the ‘walk to shore’ facility
- Angler facilities
- Support to the Local Authority to enable swimmers including our bathing pontoons moored in the sea
- Manage 200 moorings.
