Commissioners and Sustainability
We set direction and provide oversight for the executive delivery team. Our purpose includes all three elements of sustainability:
- Economic (Prosperity)
- Environmental (Planet)
- Equity/Social (People)
We provide governance for our Trust port ensuring that port activities and decisions are considered objectively and remain appropriate to our remit and authority, including financial management.
We exist by Act of Parliament as the navigation and conservancy authority for Cattewater Harbour, as well as civil pilotage for the Port of Plymouth. We are required to maintain and order safe navigation for all manner of craft which might present themselves to the harbour by surveying and dredging the channels, maintaining navigation marks and lights, providing pilotage services and traffic regulation within the Cattewater and pilotage services to the remainder of the civil port.
In Plymouth Sound we work alongside the other two statutory harbour authorities (ABP Millbay and Sutton) within the Dockyard Port where the primary authority is the Ministry of Defence. All the authorities collaborate to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the port area for the benefit of all users.
