Plymouth to welcome Nao Santa María

30 Apr 2026

Cattewater Harbour Commissioners in association with Plymouth Waterfront Partnership are pleased to announce that a full scale replica of the Nao Santa María will visit Plymouth next week. She will berthed alongside on the Barbican Landing Stage and be open to the public from Wednesday 6th until Sunday 10th May.

The Santa María is one of the most famous ships in history. On 12 October 1492, under the command of Christopher Columbus, it played a central role in one of the most significant milestones in history: the Discovery of the Americas, the Encounter between Two Worlds that changed the course of world history.

The full-scale replica of the Nao Santa María was built by the Nao Victoria Foundation in Punta Umbría (Huelva, Spain), with the support of the Provincial Council of Huelva and the Cajasol Foundation, during fourteen months of work, which began in January 2017 and ended in March 2018.

A visit consists of a self-guided tour of the four decks of the full-scale replica of the Nao Santa María, where visitors will find information panels detailing the ship’s history and period decorative features; visitors can also speak to the crew to get a sense of how Spanish sailors lived 500 years ago.

Tickets will be available to book online shortly via the Fundacion’s website or can be purchased on the day via the ship’s ticket stand based on Commercial Wharf at the entrance to the Barbican Landing Stage.

Please note that dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.
