Cattewater Harbour welcomes Thun Resolve to Plymouth

30 Jun 2026

At the start of June, the Erik Thun Group took delivery of their newest vessel to their fleet, Thun Resolve; yesterday she was welcomed into Cattewater Harbour, the commercial port of Plymouth, for the first time.

Cattewater Harbour celebrated the Thun Resolve’s inaugural visit with a celebratory water salute provided by tug Prince Rock and Serco’s SD Powerful whilst being piloted into the port by Captain Richard Eggleton, supported by Pilot vessel Stamford.

Thun Resolve, is the fourth vessel in the Group’s R-Class series, designed for efficient, reliable service in the Northern European short-sea product tanker market. She will become a frequent visitor to Plymouth in the months, and years, to come.

Recognisable by their striking green hull, the Erik Thun Group vessel has been built with sustainability and efficiency at the forefront incorporating shore-power readiness adaptive propulsion, UPS battery support, and the latest hull design to reduce resistance in real operating conditions. The R-series tankers are also methanol-ready, enabling a smoother transition to future low-emission fuels. These combined features lower fuel consumption and emissions both at sea and in port, strengthening compliance with current and upcoming environmental requirements.

Cattewater Harbour’s CEO and Harbour Master, Captain Richard Allan:

“Thun Tankers and the cargo owners are key stakeholders of the port, and this inaugural visit marks a significant milestone in the port’s ongoing relationship with the Erik Thun Group. Welcoming Thun Resolve to Plymouth demonstrates the commitment that the Group has to investing in greener, more sustainable vessels and working closely with strategic ports, such as ourselves, now and for the foreseeable future.”

This afternoon, CEO Captain Richard Allan, Cattewater Harbour Commissioners, Councillor Josh McCarty and David Wrench of Greenergy enjoyed a celebratory slice of cake with the Captain of Thun Resolve, Captain Prebillo, and members of his crew.

We wish Captain Prebillo, his crew and all that sail on her, fair winds and following seas.

Richard was recently invited to attend the launch event of Thun Response, sister vessel to Thun Resolve. Watch the launch video here
