Cattewater Harbour Commissioners are supporting the Sport England match funded Making Waves Together Project in Open Water Swimming with ACE Swimming, based at Royal William Yard, swimming in Firestone Bay.
ACE Swimming coach families within the economically deprived PL1, PL2 postcodes of Plymouth and families with learners at Millbay Academy how to use Plymouth Sound waters safely and in the designated swimming areas.
The Harbour Master, Captain Richard Allan visited the inaugural swimming session, donning his swimming trunks and participating with the families. As well as being active together on or in water, the ethos of Making Waves Together and Ace Swimming is water safety and Cattewater Harbour Commissioners have kindly donated fluorescent swimming hats and swimming floats to our participants making them clearly visible to any other water vessel whilst taking part in an activity which has grown in popularity by 40% in recent years.
Always swim in designated areas. Swim to your ability. Check the weather conditions and the tides. If you see someone in difficulty in the water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, never enter the water yourself.
