Oil spill exercise held

1 Oct 2020

On Tuesday 29th September members of the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners team undertook an exercise to test our oil spill response plans and equipment.

For this scenario pilot boat Maker had developed a ruptured fuel tank spilling diesel, whilst also sinking. Staff attended the scene onboard CHC’s work barge Plym Catte and launch Kit Catte, assessed the scene, deployed absorbent boom and used a salvage pump to pump water from the boat into the contained area.

Our staff are trained through Marine and Coastguard Agency accredited courses to appropriate levels as required by oil spill response guidelines and the Port Marine Safety Code. These exercises form part of the Port of Plymouth’s oil spill response authorisation.
