Last week (Thursday 23rd July) Plymouth was proud to welcome P&O Cruises’ Aurora on her inaugural call to the city as part of her British Isles itinerary.
This particular cruise visit carried a special significance, marking the first call by a P&O Cruises vessel to Plymouth since the 1960s. As Aurora approached Plymouth Sound, her iconic Union Jack bow and the famous P&O lettering dazzled in the morning sun.
Following pilotage into port, guests were tendered ashore to the Barbican Landing Stage with support by Plymouth Boat Trips, where they received a warm Plymouth welcome from the Town Crier, Plymouth’s Cruise Ambassadors, and the Cattewater Harbour team.
Every cruise call helps generate valuable economic activity and raises Plymouth’s profile as a gateway to the South West. They bring thousands of visitors directly into the heart of the city, supporting local shops, restaurants, attractions and tourism businesses while showcasing everything that makes Plymouth such a special destination.
A wonderful day for the city, and a fitting return for one of Britain’s most recognisable cruise brands.

Councillor Mark Lowry, Cruise Development Officer Evie Smith, agent Steve Evans from Denholm Port Services and Plymouth Cruise ambassador Neil Jones conducted the traditional plaque exchange with Captain Karl Shepherd, welcoming the vessel, guests and crew to the city.
