Recommendation for water users after heavy rainfall in the Cattewater

12 Mar 2021

Cattewater Harbour Commissioners would like to remind water users of the risks on the river after heavy rain.

Please remember after periods of heavy rainfall sewage, other pollution and debris may be present within the Cattewater. If your use of the river includes water sports it is recommended that after periods of heavy rainfall you wait a couple of tidal cycles before heading afloat, as the water quality may be reduced.

To report pollution and debris in the Cattewater, please contact the Harbour Office in the first instance. For cases of sewage please also contact South West Water and the Environment Agency.

Since January (2021) Harbour staff have removed over 60 tonnes of material that would be a hazard to navigation from the river. Often these obstructions are just below the water line, so are hard to identify.
